Journey from bride to wedding stationer
Joanna Jessica Stationery was born whilst planning my own wedding between 2016-2018. I was in total awe of our venue – The Byre at Inchyra in Perth, Scotland. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before so natural, so rustic so perfect, from the first moment we saw the Byre we both knew we had found the perfect place to say I do.
Initially, I felt quite overwhelmed at the DIY aspect to our venue but as the months passed, I started to research and book suppliers that complimented the Byre and got completely swept up in the whirlwind of wedding planning. To try and save money, I put my creative experience to the test by designing our wedding stationery.
getting creative
Having some prior knowledge of the Adobe Creative suite helped and I knew one or two things about commercial printing from working at a reprographics company however, it was still a huge lesson and extremely time consuming but it was also the most rewarding experience as it led me to start Joanna Jessica Stationery.
After creating our invites, friends and family approached me to design their wedding invitations. I was excited at the prospect of doing more collections but didn’t have much confidence in myself or my abilities at the time.
back to university
I decided to go back to university a decade after completing my first degree in Interior Design (see picture below for a giggle.) I wanted to obtain a formal qualification in Graphic Design to prove to my clients and to myself that I was appropriately qualified to run my own business.
After a lot of searching, I found the Interactive Design Institute, an online degree sponsored by the University of Hertfordshire. The course was perfect for me as it meant I could continue to work in the daytime and study in the evenings.
I’m not going to sugar coat it. IT WAS HARD GOING. It felt almost impossible to juggle at times and I had to make a lot of sacrifices to prioritise studying but I pushed through and felt so proud of myself for sticking it out.
Having the drive and determination of running my own business kept me going during the difficult times and I still have that fire inside me as I continue to grow my small business.
joanna jessica stationery
Joanna Jessica is a combination of my name and my husband’s favourite girl name. I decided to include Jessica in my company name as I am fully committed to my business and intend to nurture it every step of the way as my business baby grows.
design style
My design style has a handmade, natural elegance to it and I love experimenting with floral tones and soft colour palettes as it gives an authentic look to each collection specially selected for each couple I work with.
I’ve always enjoyed the contrast between raw and luxury materials and continue to test various textures, card stock, envelopes and additional elements together to create beautiful unique collections.
TENDER LOVING CARE
Visualising the initial brief from my couples and taking their ideas all the way to the finished physical printed designs is such a rewarding experience.
I take extra special care in providing a unique, personal experience that looks after all of my clients wedding stationery needs. I adore coming up with new ideas and themes for my wedding ranges and feel so honoured to be a part of each couple’s love story.
